General Manager – Procurement

Freemans Event Partners are the leading provider of event and stadium public catering in the UK. We operate at over 400 events each year, working in partnership with prestigious sporting and entertainment venues such as Silverstone Circuit and Twickenham Stadium and have established excellent supplier relationships with market-leading partners across numerous platforms

We are looking for a General Manager (Procurement) to join our Logistics Team.

Reporting to the Director of Wholesale and FMCG Retail Logistics, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Ongoing management of procurement strategy and activity ensuring optimal supplier sales performance, price, and overall margin growth.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to ensure the function is operating in line with the objectives of the business to add value, mitigate supply chain risk and deliver cost savings.
  • Further cultivate and maintain strategic supplier relationships and manage the development of contracts, contractual relationships, and contract management to deliver continuous improvement in delivery of goods and services by the supply base.
  • Working with suppliers to stay ahead of the competition, you will maintain our high standards of quality and service.
  • Provide market insights to key stakeholders, keeping the business informed of future market trends and developments.
  • Lead, manage and develop the procurement team to deliver the appropriate level of support to the business and to ensure that the FEP Logistics business objectives and future development plans are met.
  • Working alongside the senior management team to contribute to overall business objectives.


Main duties and responsibilities 

Working across the food and beverages category in procurement your duties will include: 

  • Leadership of the procurement department to consistently deliver day to day trading KPIs, and progress strategic projects.
  • Manage recruitment and development to ensure skills are in place to deliver departmental plans.
  • Deliver the best working cross-business solutions to procurement issues that arise within a fast moving events business.
  • Develop and manage the procurement category strategies to meet the changing needs of the business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers through regular reviews and effective negotiation of key contracts.
  • Support the procurement team with building robust supplier relationships, commercial contracts and long-term strategic partnerships.
  • Overarching responsibility for product range, including cradle to grave product lifecycle planning, NPD processes, and category management.
  • Develop a ranges that support menu development and will deliver a wider customer base additional to core business through increased concessions purchases.
  • Identify market and product opportunities, incorporating these in range reviews to optimise financial performance and enhance product ranges.
  • Controlling product pricing policies across all brands, modelling and communicating any anticipated changes in achieved margin and revenue.
  • Ownership of cost and margin data, ensuring the procurement team collate, and maintain financial records for internal landed costing.
  • Develop and maintain department 5-year plan; from category level financial planning & budgets to sourcing and supply strategy.
  • Evaluating risks and implement mitigating actions within supply chains.
  • Take into consideration sustainable solutions and best practice to ensure we take responsibility for reducing our impact on the environment and support the companywide sustainability strategy.
  • Comply with all legal & regulatory compliance.


Knowledge, experience and skills required 


  • Strong Retail / food service / cash & carry background.
  • Energy, passion, and a track record of leading and developing a high performing procurement team.
  • Outstanding negotiation skills and commercial acumen.
  • Food buying / category management experience gained across a variety of food service or FMCG categories.
  • Formal qualifications in procurement.
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Highly numerate and analytical, with the competence to create and interrogate financial models.
  • Ability to lead a department at pace delivering multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Confidence in presenting proposals and plans to the senior management team & Executive Team.
  • Strong influencing, coaching and people development.
  • Track record in margin improvement.


About You

You will have a strong retail or foodservice or cash background, be currently operating at Buying/ Procurement Manager or Head of Buying/ Procurement level.

  • Established leader and influencer who can demonstrate exceptional commercial acumen in the procurement space.
  • Fantastic people skills; an effective communicator across all levels of the business and supply chain.
  • Change agent, willing to go the extra mile to transform the procurement department.
  • A self-starter, excited about food, service and people and has their finger on the pulse of what is current and trending.
  • Able to drive change with effective project and stakeholder skills.
  • Proactive, pragmatic and commercial approach.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of Strategy development and delivery.
  • Above all people-oriented procurement specialist with a drive and enthusiasm to take the business to its next level of evolution.
