Sustainability and Health and Safety Manager


Freemans Event Partners operate at over 400 events each year, working in partnership with prestigious sporting and entertainment venues such as Silverstone Circuit and Twickenham Stadium. We are currently looking for someone to join our team in Gloucester as a Sustainability and Health and Safety Manager.

This role offers an opportunity to develop and implement a companywide robust and commercially viable sustainability strategy, as well as manage all operational health and safety processes, strategy and activities. The role will be responsible for setting key measurable KPI’s and deliver initiatives that support and deliver the programme. We are looking for someone with strong project and stakeholder management who can work with both internal and external stakeholders to drive our sustainability and health and safety agenda, raise awareness and achieve our KPI’s.

The Sustainability and Health and Safety Manager will;

  • Plan, develop, and deliver the company’s CSR strategy including projects to improve operational sustainability and drive change within the business and with key stakeholders.
  • Work with the Senior Management Team and Divisional Directors to establish baselines and set sustainability KPI’s and agree and manage any actions.
  • Monitor and review the company’s sustainability objectives, providing reports to evaluate the progress and outcomes on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Integrating sustainability requirements into procurement processes to ensure that new suppliers meet the required standards.
  • Work with our divisions to identify ways to reduce wastage at our Head Office and at on-site events.
  • Contribute to the tender process by demonstrating our commitment to sustainability and how our practices reduce the impact on the environment.
  • Investigate sustainable dietary options such as meat free or plant-based alternatives and provide suggestions to the appropriate divisions within the business.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to share and embed best practice into every area of the business and improve their understanding of sustainability.
  • Work with Group Marketing to develop a communications plan that highlights the company strategy and achievements.
  • Identify grants, either local or government led schemes, which could help the business launch environmentally friendly projects and help us to achieve our CSR strategy.
  • Engage with initiatives such as Vision:2025 and CarbonX to understand our impact on the environment and to take positive action to reduce this.

Health & Safety: ·

  • Be the primary operational lead for all health and safety strategy, processes and activities and queries.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE strategies to improve standards in line with industry best practices and actively promote a safety culture.
  • Work with each operational Divisions to ensure HSE processes are imbedded.
  • Arrange and carry out site safety and environmental audits and safety inspections. Maintain comprehensive records of audits and inspections and ensure any actions are implemented.
  • Organise any incident/accident investigations if required.
  • Identify and manage any issues and risks, escalating and reporting them as required.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and venues to ensure management and implementation of safety procedures.
  • Ensure Company policies and practices are regularly updated to comply with all aspects of current UK H&S legislation.
  • Identify future H&S and sustainability legislation and government requirements and assess the effect on business.

General

  • Attend networking events, industry events and/or awards to promote the business.
  • Any other duties that may be required from time to time for the smooth running of the business

What we are looking for;

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of health, safety and sustainability and a passion for the subject matter.
  • An industry recognised qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
  • Good understanding of health, safety and sustainability issues.
  • Good understanding of the legal framework for health and safety.
  • At least 3 years relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing a sustainability strategy.
  • Ability to deliver health, safety and sustainability initiatives and achieving KPI’s.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective business and client relationships both in person and at a distance.
  • Ability to influence and build key stakeholder relationships.
  • Fully ICT literate, competent in all MS Office applications.
  • Experience in creating reports and managing and analysing the data for internal and external stakeholders to review.
  • Ability to solve problems and use your own initiative.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within the events or hospitality industry.
