Head of Operations

Freemans Event Partners are the leading provider of event & stadium public catering in the UK. We operate at over 400 events a year, working in partnership with prestigious sporting and entertainment venues such as Silverstone and Wembley, and enjoying excellent supplier relationships with market-leading brands. Our Technologies division provides a wide range of technology products and services to some of the UK’s most prestigious sporting events and music festivals. We pride ourselves in delivering quality, robust solutions within challenging environments. Within this exciting division we are currently recruiting for a Head of Operations; reporting to the Technologies Director you will be part of a growing Technology Team responsible for the operational aspects of the technology division. We are in a period of rapid growth and need the skills of an experienced, proactive and positive Head of Operations. Responsible for delivering the overall operational functional strategy and the day to day operational delivery of PoS & payment solutions within event and fixed venue deployments.

Salary: £58,000 to £65,000 per annum

Location: Hardwicke

Contract type: Permanent, Monday to Friday with weekend flexibility

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for monitoring team spend against pre-agreed budgets;
  • Ensuring adequate resources are provided to the operational deployment team for successful delivery;
  • Manage the implementation of detailed project plans ensuring project requirements are met within required time frames and budgets;
  • Provide detailed and clear briefings prior to the start of projects, ensuring the whole team has all the information they require and fully understand the objectives and standards for any given event;
  • Supervise all aspects of your team’s performance; monitoring, encouraging, coaching, guiding and leading by example;
  • Build trusted relationships with key identified stakeholders alongside Account Managers
  • You have superior operational expertise, drive, and the experience to quickly get up to speed with our technology, process and procedures in a varied and challenging role;
  • You are resilient, empathetic, collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with excellent organisational, time and project management skills.
  • You have excellent communication skills and are capable of presenting technical operational details, concepts and information in an easy to understand format.
  • An understanding of risk management and mitigation to ensure delivery of projects.
  • Highly organised with a systematic approach ensuring all processes and procedures are delivered;
  • Provide effective & efficient operational procedures including the initiation of change to ensure key operational, commercial and financial targets are delivered;
  • Engagement with the operations team educating them in the budget process gaining input and understanding and adherence to the budget;
  • Control Budget/P&L on an ongoing basis and monitor divisional KPI’s taking remedial action when required;
  • Manage third party provider contracts. Ensure delivery is to agreed SLAs, effective resolution of issues and the modification and development of services based on changing business needs, improving value and continuous improvement.
  • Provide detailed and clear briefings prior to the start of projects, ensuring the whole team has all the information they require and fully understand the objectives and standards for any given event;
  • Oversee operation heads to ensure event requirements are met within required time frames and budgets;
  • Supervise all aspects of your team’s performance; monitoring, encouraging, coaching, guiding and leading by example;
  • Oversee the welfare of your team at all times (both on and off site), ensuring they operate to safe systems of work, receive appropriate breaks and are treated respectfully;
  • Develop and optimise existing event solutions, continuously seeking improvements in efficiency and effectiveness;

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Essential

  • Previous experience of managing a remote team
  • Experience of working with globally disparate technology teams.
  • Ability to work in and react to a changing environment, and respond pragmatically to problems as they arise;
  • Ability to supervise and lead others including managing performance and coaching whilst being able to impact and influence;
  • Ability to communicate financial information to wider members of the team
  • Excellent computer and project management skills;
  • Experience of site-based working;
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, safe site working practices;
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the unsociable working hours that are necessary in the events industry (working hours will ordinarily be 5 days out of every 7 including weekends and long days at times);
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of managing multiple technical deployments
  • Experience of working to Prince 2 principles and standards.
  • Understanding of events industry (exhibitions, conferences, green fields);
  • Experience of Card Payments Industry and/or Wireless Technical Deployments
